The Atlantic Forest of Brazil stretches from north to south along the coast of Brazil, but only about 10% of the original forest remains.The Atlantic Forest is the second Brazilian biome with the greatest biodiversity and endemism.

In Southeast Brazil at near the largest city in Brazil (São Paulo) we have the largest preserved area of Atlantic forest in the country. The number of birds can exceed 900 species among hummingbirds, tanagers, parrots, woodpeckers, antbirds, toucans and toucanets.

Intervales State Park

This State Park comprises more than 400 species of birds in 42,000 hectares of the largest fragments of preserved forest in the Atlantic Forest in Brazil.
In 1999, it was recognized by UNESCO as a Natural Heritage of Humanity.

Highlights Birds:
Spot-winged Wood-Quail, Red-and-white Crake, Slaty Bristlefront, Sao Paulo Tyrannulet, Solitary Tinamou, Black-fronted Piping-Guan, Cinnamon-vented Piha, Serra do mar Tyrant-Manakin, White-bearded Antshrike, Green-throated Euphonia, Saffron Toucanet, Spot-billed Toucanet, Bay-ringer Tyrannulet, Sharp-billed Treehunter, Sharpbill, Squamate antbird, Pin-tailed Manakin, Golden-rumper Euphonia and many other.

TAPIRAÍ
Trilhas dos Tucanos

In the Tapiraí region, more than 300 species of birds have been identified, many of them on the Trilha dos Tucanos.
Opened in 1999 this is a perfect place for bird watching in the Atlantic Forest biome which, has the greattest diversity of species per square meter.

Highlights Birds:
White-tipped Dove, Golden-winged Cacique, Shiny Cowbird, Olive-green Tanager, Yellow-fronted Woodpecker, Red-breasted Toucan, Black-goggled Tanager, Azure-shouldered Tanager, Versicolored Emerald, Amethyst Woodstar, Brazilian Ruby, Whilw-throated Hummingbird, Scale-throated Hermit, Planalto Hermit and many others.

PERUÍBE
JURÉIA ITATINS
ECOLOGICAL STATION

In Jureia Itatins ecological station have a Atlantic forest still preserved in Brazil. At the Jureia Itatins ecological station, there is an Atlantic forest still preserved in Brazil. In this region we find restinga (sandy soils), mangrove forests and coastal Atlantic Forest. In this paradisiacal location there is a Red-tailed Parrot dormitory where more than 400 parrots arrive at the end of the day to sleep.
Pousada Bioventura is a pleasant place in the middle of the Atlantic Forest, owned by two biologists who encourage contact with local animals, such as birds, amphibians, sloths, opossuns and even snakes.

Red-tailed Parrot, Violaceous Euphonia, Black-backed Tanager, Green-headed Tanager, Blue Dacnis, Azure Jay, Blond-crested Woodpecker, Black-throated Mango, Violet-capped Woodnymph, Black Jacobin, Festive Coquette, Chestnut-bellied Euphonia, Red-rumper Cacique, Channel-billed Toucan, Red-tailed Parrot, Brazilian Tanager, Ruby-crowned Tanager and many other.

Usina-Park Energy, in Salesópolis, is a “hotspot” with 156 hectares of preserved Atlantic Forest in Salesópolis, where you will find the endemic and rare São Paulo Antwren.

CAMPOS DO JORDÃO

In the Serra da Mantiqueira is the city of Campos do Jordão with an altitude of 1628 meters with a colder climate. Here are the birds of the high altitude Atlantic Forest.

Highlights Birds:
Vinaceous-breasted Parrot, Black-capped Piprites, Hellmayr´s Pipit, Serra do Mar Tyrannulet, Swallow-tailed Cotinga, Black-and-gold Cotinga, Red-ruffed Fruitcrow, Lesser Grass-Finch, Rock Tapaculo, Rufous-tailed Antbird, Large-tailed Antshrike, Chestnut-headed Tanager, Rufous-tailed Antthrush and many others.

UBATUBA

Ubatuba is one of the best hotspots for bird watching in the Atlantic forest on the coast, it has more than 500 species of birds.
Ninho da Cambacica Lodge is located in the middle of the Serra do Mar mountain formations. The observation tower is excellent for finding birds on the tops of trees and also for enjoying the scenery.
We will visit Sitio Folha Seca, the paradise of hummingbirds located in the heart of Ubatuba.

Scaled Antbird, Green-backed Trogon, Bran-colored, Saffron Toucanet, Frilled Coquette, Black-and-White Hawk- eagle, Green-headed Tanager, Golden-chevroned Tanager, Brazilian Tanager, Violet-capped Woodnymph, Brazilian Ruby, Saw-billed Hermit and many others.
