HARPY EAGLE
SOUTH AMAZON

PRIVATE TOUR
6 DAYS AND 5 NIGHTS

This tour will take you to the most preserved areas of the Brazilian Amazonia. In Alta Floresta city in the south of the Amazon region, where the Amazon Rainforest meets the Cerrado and Pantanal biomes. Dues to the wealth of this region, in terms of biodiversity, its protection from deforestation, hunting and fire is critical.
The Harpy Eagle has almost disappeared from most of the Amazon, but here with a low population index and a region preserved with untouched tall trees, we can see, this gigantic eagle, which thrives in your natural habitat.

Nowhere else can you get so close
to this incredible animal.

A huge number of tree species intermingle in an intricate system of competition for sunlight in Amazon. So, observing the wildlife that inhabits the canopy or higher stratum of the forest is a demanding task for people down on the forest floor.
The trees vary in height from 25 to 45 meters (80–145 ft).

Through an observation tower with top platform that is at level with nests and birds. Observe and photograph the baby in the nest and the parents feeding it. Parents are completely calm even when they see us at the top of the tower, as they have become accustomed to researchers and tourists.
In addition to Harpy Eagle, there are many other animals to be observed at another point of our trip.

The Cristalino Private National Heritage Reserve is, in a rich mosaic formed by well preserved rivers such as the Cristalino and natural forests. The 11,399 hectares (28,167 acres) of the reserve provide an important haven that, along with the Cristalino State Park, serves as a wildlife corridor for the incredible diversity of endemic species in the region.

The Cristalino is a refuge for endangered species such as the jaguar, bush dog, puma, giant anteater and sloth and is home to more than seven species of monkey, including the endemic white-whiskered spider monkey, a symbol of the park. Other forest dwellers include the giant armadillo, giant otter and many species of butterflys and frogs. A third of all Brazilian birds – of a total of 1,800 species, including the harpy eagle, macaws, parrots and toucans – can be seen in and around the reserve.

Cristalino Lodge built two 50 meter (165 ft) galvanized steel observation towers, located at different strategic points in the beautiful reserve. Both towers are accessible via trails within a firm forest ecosystem that contains well-developed trees, such as sapopema, which are approximately 600 years old.
The towers allow you to observe all layers of the forest, from the ground level to the canopy. The view from the top is breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset. In 2011, Cristalino Lodge was elected one of the best hotels in Brazil by National Geographic Traveler, due to its authentic experience in the Amazon, its socio-environmental commitment and responsible tourism.
